Training - Deb Nelson reported on Venture Consultants

Venture consultant is a person with special knowledge or experience who can assist with a program or help develop a Venture program introducing the Crew to a new activity or program about which they have little or no knowledge. A roster of persons in particular areas is being set up and consultants are being sought much as in the case of merit badge counselors. An application is required; but there is no fee. Everyone is encouraged to sign up; and, if you know of persons with special knowledge, you may recommend such.

District Commissioner’s Report Clyde Frank

Rechartering- Its been a good re-chartering year. Only three units haven’t done so. There is hope that a Beach unit can be re started

Centenial Quality Unit goals. Need to get those in as soon as possible; and not wait until the end of the year

, Commissioner of Science Training in Grand Forks this Weekend. Four from our District will be attending. Clyde Frank, Deb Nelson, Dann Greenwood and Shelly Fleck.

Hope to accomplish before May: 1) commissioner recruitment, 2) dropped youth survey, 3) get rest of Unit Goals in.

Reports of Operating Committees

A. Advancement and Recognition Todd Otto

See attached reports to see how each unit is doing. Such will be on the web on the Advancement page in the near future. General discussion about how the Units are doing.

Todd reported that there will be a Life to Eagle Training at the end of April.

B. Finance Dann Greenwood

The district is about $300 ahead of where it was last year at this time even though the Community figures are a bit behind. Cards have been distributed; so we’re hopeful things will be picking up. The Council was about $35,000 ahead of last year at this time as of Tuesday.

C. Membership Robin

South Heart Crew will be meeting on April 10th. The adults are lined up. We just need youth. Bill will be doing spring recruitment soon; and he will be looking for help.

D Training Deb Nelson

Looking to set up outdoor training. Robin trained 3 in Hettinger. Will be setting up unit specific training for Troop 32 as they have a huge infusion of new parents.

Outdoor training will be set up for Spring Camporee. Boy Scout troops who need to have adults trained before summer camp

April 20th 1:00 to 3:00 Cub Scout leader training at Deb Nelson’s office at DLN Consulting [insert address]

Will set up Venture Crew Leader Training.

Clyde complemented the Training group for excellent work

E. Camping Robin

In May the Spring Camporee will be May 9-11th. Packs with boys having Arrow of Light requirements should be contacted. There is some concern that Grant County may impose a "burn ban." There will be an Order of Arrow call out at the Camporee. Jim Fahy has a program laid out and will have the costumes.

Robin reported that Daryl indicated that his sister, associated with Bismarck troop 11, wanted to know if our District wanted to put together a joint camporee at Heart Butte in the Fall. The consensus of those present was that we should respond favorably.

During the first two weeks of June, Weeblos camp will be at Heart Butte. We will have a new swim dock if they can find a place with water of sufficient depth. The HB kitchen has been newly furnished with cooking equipment. Everything is looking good. The cook stove will be moved against the back wall.

There appears to be good participation planned for unit summer camp.

F. Activities and Civic Services

Scouting for Food results were good. About 5000 lbs Dickinson, 1200 lbs Bowman. Hettinger will be this upcoming weekend. The District total is about 10,000 lbs.

Order of the Arrow

We still looking for an OA advisor. There is one person being "courted."

Jim Fahy offered to help on an "as needed" basis with understanding its for a limited time.

Troops need to get their elections completed. (Even though they should have been completed.)

Clyde reminded the District Committee that it can elect an OA candidate. He suggested nominations be sent to Robin by the first part of May in order to have election before Spring Camporee call out.

Miscellaneous

Annual Picnic

Robin asked if there is any interest in a District Picnic; and, if so, where. The consensus was that there should be a picnic. Suggestions will be accepted at, and the decision will be made at, the May meeting.

Jim Fahy reported that there will be a family camp in late July, early August, perhaps at Heart Butte. Christie Chernich is working on a Woodbadge ticket item for setting up a Pack camp which isn’t going well; and it could be melded into June 27-29 at Heart Butte.

Christie Chernich invited persons to help out with Day Camp July 21-23 if they are willing and interested.

There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 8:24
