What
is Advancement? Advancement
is the process by which youth members of the Boy Scouts of America progress from
rank to rank in the Scouting program. Advancement is a means to an end, not an
end in itself. Everything done to advance and earn these ranks should be
designed to have the young person have an exciting and meaningful experience.
Education and fun are functions of the Scouting movement and they must be the
basis of the advancement program. A fundamental principle of advancement in the
Cub Scouting, Boy Scouting or Venturing is the growth a young person achieves as
a result of participation in a unit program. Advancement is an increase in one rank. Activity pins in
Cub Scouting are an indication of advancement as are merit badges in Boy
Scouting. The National goal is one
advancement per Cub Scout or Boy Scout per year. How is your unit doing? Read

You are invited to browse through this site to see how your
unit is doing from time to time. An attempt will be made to update the site at
least quarterly. Should you have a question please attend a roundtable or
District Committee meeting and ask? Your suggestions for content are welcome. What would you
like to know about advancement? District
Advancement Team Goals: One goal of the District Advancement Committee is to have a
merit badge counselor for Scouts who desire to earn a merit badge. Merit Badge
counselors are registered for all but the following merit badges. Your unit
advancement person who may contact the District Advancement chair can readily
fill most vacancies upon request. Advancement report:
